What information does Gmail need for a Death Notification?

When notifying Gmail of your recent loss, you will be required to have the following information:

  • Full Name
  • Your Mailing List
  • Your Email Address
  • A Photocopy of your Government-Issued ID / Driver’s License
  • Gmail Address of Deceased

What Happens Next?

After review, you will be notified by email and informed whether Gmail will be able to process your next steps. Google during this time will not delete the deceased’s account before responding to your request. Once the account has been reviewed, Google will send you what is needed for their next steps. During this time, Google will launch what is called Inactive Account Manager, which is a way to either share or delete the account after a set period of inactivity.
